The event gives unsigned and undiscovered DJs/producers the chance to showcase their work in front of music industry professionals with the possibility of even scoring a label deal all while in the comfort of their home.

Radikal Records will hold its first ever online A&R party Thursday, June 14th between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM EDT on Turntable.fm. The live event is a great opportunity for unsigned and undiscovered DJs and/or producers to showcase their music in front of industry professionals with the possibility of getting signed to Radikal Records.

Radikal Records made the announcement yesterday afternoon on their website with a full list of rules and instructions for participation.

To take part in the live A&R party, DJs must first RSVP for the event by signing up on the online guest list. Once on the guest list, aspiring DJs must show up in the “Radikal Records A&R Party” room on Turntable.fm at the designated time. Anyone can enter the room, but only those on the guest list will be allowed to DJ. Each DJ will be able to play at least one track that’s less than 6 minutes in length, with the possibility of playing a second track if time permits.

Representatives from Radikal Records will be in the room for the duration of the event, listening to every track as it’s played and keeping a keen ear out for interesting songs. Any DJs/producers who spin songs that are of interest to the label will be contacted via email within 5 business days.

Gummybear International has granted license for their lovable, singing and dancing gummy bear character, Gummibär, to be used in the most recent television ad campaign launched by Jumbo, for their chain of toy stores in Bulgaria. The commercial produced by Jumbo depicts Gummibär up to his usual, off-the-wall antics as he sings about the toy store along to the music of his very popular song “I’m A Gummy Bear.” The television ad can be seen on Jumbo’s YouTube channel.

The decision to work with Jumbo, a toy retailer similar in popularity to Toys R Us in the U.S., was made based on their good reputation and Gummybear International’s on-going goal to increase exposure for Gummibär around the world. “We see this as a great co-branding opportunity for Gummibär,” said Jürgen Korduletsch, President of Gummybear International, “Jumbo is a popular and respectable company and we look forward to great success together.”

The recent licensing deal is not the first for Gummibär. In 2011, the Turkish telecommunication company, BN Telekom, used Gummibär in a successful promotional campaign that resulted in a significant boost in sales. Also in 2010, Greek food company IFANTIS used the popular gummy bear character for a national television ad campaign.

Hen Ree is the solo project of Rickard Olsén, lead singer of the Swedish alternative rock band The Windupdeads. Apollo 440 burst onto the electronic music scene in the late 90s with their first release, “Electro Glide in Blue.” The leading single from that album, “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘bout Dub,” which sampled an iconic Van Halen guitar riff and mixed it with drum and bass elements, reached #7 on the UK singles charts. “Oftentimes” is the first full length to come from A Genuine Freakshow, who have already begun to make a name for themselves in the UK with a tremendously unique sound that takes a traditional approach to pop songwriting but colors it with a dynamic pallet of orchestral timbres. MTV / VH1 Reject Bombs Away’s Super Soaker Video For Being “Too Risqué”

MTV and VH1 networks have recently refused to air Radikal Records artist Bombs Away’s music video for their single “Super Soaker,” claiming that it is “too risqué.”

In a recent report from RIVE Video Promotion, Radikal Records has learned that MTV and VH1 networks recently refused to air the music video for “Super Soaker” by their artist Bombs Away. The reason given to RIVE for the rejection was reportedly that the networks thought, “the video was too risqué.”

While it’s not unusual for MTV or VH1 to pass up on new music video submissions (they must pass up on dozens if not hundreds of submissions every day) getting a reason for the rejection is more rare, and for being too risqué, even more so. The response is somewhat of a surprise coming from a network like MTV, on which viewers can witness the raunchy, drug and alcohol driven sexual exploits of Snooki and the crew on their show Jersey Shore just about every day of the week.

Perhaps MTV is now a bit more sensitive to controversy since they received public criticism earlier this year for their show Skins, which depicts teens having sex, doing drugs and consuming alcohol. The show stirred up opposition from advocacy groups and had some calling for investigations into whether or not MTV had violated laws related to child pornography and the sexual exploitation of children.

So the question may be legitimately posed, is the Bombs Away “Super Soaker” video more controversial than MTV’s current programming? The song “Super Soaker” is about the group Bombs Away’s idea to fill a water gun with vodka and use it to administer shots of the alcohol (pun intended). The video shows nothing MTV viewers haven’t seen before, primarily featuring dozens of young adult women in bikinis dancing provocatively while band members Thomas Hart and Matt Coleman run around with their giant toy water guns. While the song does use some suggestive language, there is no explicit profanity.

Bombs Away are a DJ/Production duo from Australia that have had success in their own country, holding concurrent spots on the AIRIA Charts and achieving top 10s on iTunes and Beatport Charts. Most recently, their song “Super Soaker” achieved gold status in Australia. Bombs Away’s music definitely appeals to a younger crowd that enjoys the party lifestyle while the band members never for a second give the impression that they take themselves too seriously. Their care-free attitudes and somewhat goofy but fun-loving behavior often draws comparisons to the group LMFAO in the US.

While the video for “Super Soaker” has been met with resistance from MTV and VH1, it still marches on getting views and plays elsewhere. The official video on YouTube has over 1.5 million views and is getting plays on dozens of other internet video outlets and regional television networks in North America.

With the summer season still upon us, the video may be poised to take summertime party-goers by storm, as predicted by Sean Ross, one of the radio industry’s most respected programming analysts and host of Ross on the Radio. In a blog article posted in January this year entitled “First Summer Hit Of 2012?” Ross wrote about “Super Soaker,” saying, “It may seem like we’ve barely stopped milking the ‘Summer Song of 2011’ theme, but label A&R and marketing staffs are gearing up for the 2012 contenders…(It’s from Australia where, of course, it already qualifies as a summer hit.) If that’s not inducement enough to check it out, certain readers will be more interested after hearing that this is the kind of video that used to routinely go top 10 on The Box in the ’90s, even if it never got anywhere near the radio.”
